| Frank Hornstein, 48, was elected to the Minnesota
House of Representatives in 2002. Hornstein is a key DFL leader on
transit, regional growth, and renewable energy issues. He is the
chair of the Transportation and Transit Policy Subcommittee, and
a member of the following House committees: Transportation Finance;
E-12 Education Policy; Education Finance and Economic Competitiveness
Finance Division; and the Labor and Consumer Protection Division.
Frank also is the chairman of the Legislative Commission on Metropolitan
Governance, and a member of the Legislative Electric Energy Task-Force.
From 2000-2002, Hornstein served as the Southwest Minneapolis representative to the Metropolitan Council. As a Met Council member, he chaired the Regional Growth Policy Committee, and led efforts to promote affordable housing, improve transit and curb urban sprawl.
Hornstein is a veteran community organizer who is a former co-director and organizing director of Clean Water Action Alliance of Minnesota. He was the founding director of the Alliance for Metropolitan Stability, a coalition which has become a key player in regional policy debates, as well as the founding director of Jewish Community Action, which in recent years has reinvigorated the Jewish community’s participation in social justice causes. In addition, as a public school parent, he has been an elected member and co-chair of the Barton Open School Leadership Council.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native moved to the Twin Cities in 1977 to attend Macalester College in St. Paul, where he graduated in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies. He later earned a masters of arts degree in Urban and Environmental Policy at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Hornstein is a 15-year resident of the Linden Hills neighborhood in Southwest Minneapolis, where he lives with his wife, Rabbi Marcia Zimmerman, and their three children. |
